About the Homewood Skateboard Park

by Randy Malm

This is how I began the Skateboard Park organized in my town. A few friends and I talked to some people at out Public Utility District to see how they felt about the idea. They thought it sounded like a good idea and they agreed to work with us.

They suggested that we come to the next Board meeting to introduce our plan to build a Skateboard Park. At the meeting, the Board asked us to circulate a petition to see if there was community support for this project. Over a ten day period, we got 1,154 signatures which we presented to the Board. They realized that there really was community support. They asked us to go on a search to find a location and building materials. Ski Homewood donated their parking lot for free use during the summer, several others donated materials and their time for architecture, plans and the design was drawn by Pat Duffy.

After that was taken care of, we went back to the Board and they felt we were on our way to establishing the project. They gave us $6,000 in seed start-up money. We described our plans for a raffle, auction and barbecue fund-raiser to be held July 7th ( see above). They made forms for us to obtain raffle prizes from local businesses and tickets to sell for the event and the raffle. We can't believe how many restaurants and stores have given us great prizes to raise funds.
